4-H Livestock Shows

4-H Chick Chain

The purpose of the 4-H Chick Chain is to give 4-Hers the opportunity to raise baby chicks and experience caring for chickens that will be used for either layers or broilers.  The 4-H members that participate in this activity will have fun taking care of their chickens and other family members will be able to enjoy the good-tasting, nutritious food that they produce.  This project will also help participating 4-Hers develop poultry management skills, learn to produce healthy chickens, develop an awareness for business management through recordkeeping, contribute to the family’s food supply and realize the pride of accomplishment.

Each 4-Her participating in the 4-H Chick Chain will receive his/her baby chicks in April.  No money is needed, but, six pullets out of every 25 chicks received will need to be returned as payment to the Lincoln County Fair for the annual 4-H Poultry Show & Sale.  Monies from the sale of the pullets will be used to purchase baby chicks for the next years  4-H Chick Chain participants.
